Callaway Chamber of Commerce Job Description: Tourism & Marketing Specialist
Position Overview: The Tourism & Marketing Specialist is a full-time salaried position reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer of the Callaway Chamber of Commerce. This role is responsible for promoting Callaway County as a premier tourism destination while also supporting the Chamber’s broader marketing, storytelling, and digital presence. The position plays a key role in both attracting visitors and enhancing the visibility of Chamber members, local businesses, and community assets through strategic marketing and digital storytelling.
Key Responsibilities:
Tourism Development & Promotion
•
Position and brand Callaway County as a top tourism destination for a variety of audiences, including day-trippers, overnight guests, and motorcoach groups.
•
Develop and implement strategic marketing, advertising, and public relations campaigns to increase visitation and overnight stays, highlighting the county’s unique assets.
•
Apply for and manage grant opportunities with a focus on Missouri Tourism Cooperative Marketing Programs.
•
Build and maintain strong relationships with tourism partners and stakeholders at the local, regional, and state level.
•
Assist with planning, support, and promotion of conferences and tourism-related events within Callaway County.
•
Provide monthly tourism activity reports, including website GA4 analytics, META insights, and notable group bookings.
Chamber Marketing & Storytelling
•
Build and maintain the brand of the Callaway Chamber of Commerce serving as the Chamber's lead storyteller, curating and sharing compelling content that highlights local businesses, entrepreneurs, community events, and Chamber initiatives.
•
Develop and execute digital advertising strategies with a strong focus on social media marketing, website management across multiple platforms, and compelling content creation.
Digital & Social Media Management
•
Oversee the Chamber and tourism social media accounts, ensuring timely, engaging, and brand-aligned content.
•
Manage updates to the Chamber and tourism websites, keeping content accurate, relevant, and SEO-friendly.
•
Monitor and report on digital analytics to inform strategy and measure engagement.
•
Respond to digital inquiries and comments in a timely and professional manner to enhance visitor and member engagement.
Community Collaboration
•
Partners with local businesses, K-12 schools, colleges, universities, and civic organizations to identify and promote tourism and marketing opportunities.
•
Maintain awareness of community activities, events, and opportunities of interest to visitors and residents alike.
•
Support a healthy, collaborative environment for hospitality-related businesses and Chamber members.
Other Duties
•
Assist in coordinating and marketing Chamber-hosted programs and events as needed.
•
Attend tourism related conferences to promote our destination and for professional development.
•
Participate in professional development opportunities to remain current on tourism and digital marketing trends.
•
Other duties as assigned by the CEO.
Qualifications:
•
Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, Hospitality, Communications, or a related field.
•
Experience working with marketing agencies, managing a marketing budget, and demonstrating measurable growth.
•
Experience in tourism, marketing, or digital content creation preferred.
•
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•
Strong storytelling and creative content development abilities.
•
Proficiency in managing social media platforms, website CMS, and basic analytics tools (Google Analytics, Meta Insights, etc.).
•
Interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships across diverse groups.
•
Highly organized with attention to detail and strong time management.
•
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
•
Enthusiastic, creative, and passionate about community promotion.
