The Central Missouri Foster Care & Adoption Association (CMFCAA) is proud to announce the launch of The Traveling Trunk, a mobile resource unit designed to bring free clothing, hygiene products, toys, and other essentials to foster, adoptive, and kinship families across 24 mid-Missouri counties. To celebrate this exciting new initiative, CMFCAA would like to invite the public to a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, March 13, from 2-3 p.m. at 1704 Christy Court, Jefferson City, MO.

The event, hosted in partnership with the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce, will bring together families served by CMFCAA, donors, community leaders, and public officials to commemorate this milestone. The Traveling Trunk aims to reduce transportation barriers for families in rural areas that may struggle to reach CMFCAA’s physical Trunk locations in Jefferson City, Osage Beach, and Rolla. Families using this service will be able to shop for free and select up to 20 essential items per month.

A full-circle moment

The launch of The Traveling Trunk is a significant moment in CMFCAA’s history, as it honors the organization’s roots. CMFCAA was founded by DeAnna Alonso, a former foster child, who began the organization by delivering clothes and supplies to families directly from the trunk of her Chevy Cavalier. Now, with a full-time driver and a dedicated mobile unit, CMFCAA is expanding its mission on a greater scale than ever before.

Community needs driving innovation

The idea for The Traveling Trunk came from CMFCAA’s 2024 Community Needs Assessment, in which 31% of respondents expressed the need for a clothing closet in their county. In response, CMFCAA developed this initiative to meet families where they are and ensure that they have access to vital resources.
